So I'm 16 and I have never owned a smartphone or social media profile, however, I own a Nokia 3310. Very old phone with basic functionality, but indestructible.
I want to stop isolating myself, but I'm scared that they will make fun from not owning a smartphone or any social media. That they will call me out of poor when my parents are rich. Everyone at school uses Internet messengers and so I'm afraid SMS protocol wouldn't be enough nowadays.
My parents don't allow me to use social media or own a smartphone. I hate them for this.
So if you are teenagers without smartphone and social media access, then is it still possible to socialize with only a dumb phone? Can you communicate using only SMS and face-to-face? If it was 90s, I would just use e-mail. Being a teen in 2010s sucks and is extremely tough that even 2000s seems pretty easy

Of course you can do it, although sounds very hard nowdays.
You can try to socialize face to face while looking for a small job to earn some money to buy a cheap smartphone.
Anyway you can find a gilr and friend even only calling them on phone calls and asking them to go out.

I dont own any cell phone and have not used social media since the days of myspace..im 29. I get more respect because i dont follow the trends and besides this fact i save a lot of money not having a phone bill. people want to talk to me i say email me or knock on my fuckin door

I'm close to your age; also a teenager. I own a phone. Are you in high school? Who will make fun of you for not using a smartphone? Don't be so pessimistic; sadness or lack of self confidence can make people targets for bullying, not what model of phone you use.
I don't use internet messages and deleted all of my social media. I mainly use text and email. I text a lot, including group texts.
I think that your parents are too controling; you are 16, so you should have some independence and freedom.
I communicate using texts, calls, email, and face-to-face. Meeting someone in person is SO much better than social media. I mostly use texts to keep people updated, tell jokes, and plan to meet up FACE-TO-FACE.
Being a teen in the 2010s is better than earlier IMO not just because of the tech we benefit from, but in the ways our society has inproved since the 90s.
I only have a few close friends, but if you try do be optimistic and confident (not always easy) and use texts to plan meet-ups, I think you'll do all right. I haven't used social media in all my years of high school, and I'm doing fine

Of course it's possible. You don't need a phone or likes to make friends, what makes you make that assumption? You just gotta have a great personality and friends will come to you, I don't see how you could really make any great friends through social media, since you're 16 you probably attend school and therefore have classmates, tried getting some friends there since that's the obvious place to look? Don't worry about them making fun off your phone, I have a fucking shit fun and although I have social media I don't very often use it to interact with people, if I do; it's through SMS and in real life.
